Air Fryer vs. Convection Toaster Oven: Which Countertop Box Deserves the Outlet?
Both move hot air around food. One is better at toast. One is better at reviving fries. Neither will clean itself, because apparently we still live in that reality.

An air fryer is usually better for crispy small portions, frozen snacks, roasted vegetables, and leftovers. A convection toaster oven is usually better for toast, bagels, pizza slices, small trays, and anything that wants a flat rack.
Where air fryers win
- Frozen fries, nuggets, and breaded things that pretend to be dinner
- Reheating fried foods without turning them limp
- Small portions that do not justify preheating a larger oven
- Fast cleanup when the basket coating behaves itself
Where toaster ovens win

- Pizza slices that need a flat surface

What I would choose
If I had to pick only one for the most flexible small kitchen setup, I would lean convection toaster oven. If I cared most about crispy leftovers and fast weeknight sides, I would pick an air fryer. If I had room for both, I would pretend that was restraint and keep both.
The honest answer is that they overlap, but they do not feel identical in daily use. Air fryers are better snack-and-leftover machines. Convection toaster ovens are better mini-ovens.
